Asbestos Sampling & Analysis

Asbestos Bulk Sampling

Brown Asbestos Ltd. undertake sampling and analysis of suspicious materials.

Materials are sampled safely and sealed ready for analysis. All sampling of suspect asbestos materials is undertaken utilising our in-house technical procedure following principles detailed in HSE document HSG248 ‘Asbestos: The analysts’ guide for sampling, analysis and clearance procedures’.

Asbestos Bulk Analysis

Asbestos samples may only be analysed by laboratories accredited by UKAS, any other form of identification is not permitted. All materials sampled by Brown Asbestos Ltd. are analysed by an accredited laboratory and results are issued on official certificates.

Samples are normally analysed using PLM (Polarised Light Microscopy) methods however other analysis methods are available including SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) and TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy). SEM and TEM methods are used for analysis of certain materials where normal methods are unlikely to produce satisfactory results and a higher level of accuracy is required.

Sampling of asbestos materials is dangerous and should not be undertaken by unqualified persons. Attempting to sample materials can lead to contamination and exposure to harmful asbestos fibres.
